Our daily lives are filled with examples of proportion, quantity, and scale. Even our interactions with water. Our bills are based upon the quantity of water we use. Some utilities have a Tiered Rate billing system where higher rates are imposed on higher amounts of water use. This tiered system is a type of scale that we need to understand to keep our water bills low. To manage our water consumption, we might compare our average daily water use to average daily usage by other homeowners in our city to see if our use is proportional to theirs. The concepts of Proportion, Quantity, and Scale help us balance the parts of our everyday lives.
