Observation is an essential tool for discovering new phenomenon. It is also essential for analyzing and interpreting the phenomenon that is discovered. In this lesson, students will take the perspective of a scientist and use their powers of observation to watch a video clip of a selected mystery animal and then create a scientific drawing of this creature, ideally in a Nature Journal. They will watch their creature and analyze the detailed parts of an organism, drawing exactly what they see. When the drawing is complete, they will analyze the organism’s structure, determine its size and scale, label details, and make interpretations based upon what they see.
How can drawing help your students analyze and interpret their organism?
