In the water world, a “net force” is used to move water. Here in Arizona, the Central Arizona Project (CAP) delivers water from the Colorado River all the way down past Tucson, a distance of 336 miles and an elevation gain of almost 3,000 feet! Water is heavy. It weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon. Can you imagine the net force required to move millions of gallons of water uphill and across the state! Can you imagine how they designed this massive aqueduct that functions as a lifeline to our desert cities.
Can you design a scale model of the CAP system which will move water uphill?
